Tummy Tuck Introduction

At our practice in London, tummy tuck surgery is a very common procedure. A tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, is one of the most common cosmetic surgery procedures performed. Often, factors such as multiple pregnancies and genetics can contribute to the development of loose skin, fat deposits, and stretch marks in the abdominal region. Even substantial weight loss can contribute to the development of loose skin in the abdomen. These areas typically persist despite proper diet and exercise, and they can make the abdomen appear disproportionate to the rest of the body. Fortunately, a tummy tuck in London can flatten that abdomen for more attractive body contours.

A full tummy tuck works by removing loose skin, fat deposits, and stretch marks from the abdominal region. In addition, vertical abdominal muscles that have been stretched and weakened over time are tightened, restoring the appearance of a firmer, flatter abdomen. Tummy tuck procedures can be performed alone, but are often performed with liposuction to further improve body contours.

Am I a Good Candidate for a Tummy Tuck?

The best candidates for a tummy tuck are people who want a tighter, firmer, and flatter abdomen. They should be in good health and at or near their ideal weight. Candidate must be non-smokers or willing to stop smoking before the procedure to avoid complications.

A tummy tuck is not ideal for people with diabetes, poor circulation, or lung, heart, or liver problems, since these can lead to complications. It is not suited for those who are overweight or obese, have a BMI of over 30, have a history of surgery complications or clotting problems, or are taking medications that might impede healing.

Your Tummy Tuck Consultation

During the consultation, we will ask about your medical history to determine if you are a good candidate for a tummy tuck. Prepare to talk about any pre-existing medical conditions, current medications and supplements, drug allergies, and use of drugs, tobacco, or alcohol.

We will also ask about your cosmetic goals, and a physical examination will be performed. We will discuss what will happen during the tummy tuck procedure, what you need to prepare for it, and what you can expect after getting it. Ask us any questions you might have so you can feel as comfortable as possible.

Tummy Tuck Technique

Abdominoplasty is performed either under general or local anesthetic or under local anesthetic with sedation and usually takes between one and two hours to complete.

Dr. Foued Hamza will make an incision just above the pubic area. While he will attempt to place the incision so that it is hidden by a bathing suit or undergarments, it is important to realize that you will have a permanent scar.

The skin and fat layers that lie above the abdominal wall are separated from the wall using a cautery device. The tissue is then lifted upward toward the navel to expose the abdominal muscles in the lower abdomen.

In order to tighten the abdomen, Dr. Foued Hamza will suture the abdominal muscles, pulling them closer together, which creates a flatter, firmer abdominal wall, and a slimmer waistline.

Dr. Foued Hamza will stretch the layer of skin and fat that has been lifted away back tightly over the abdominal wall. The skin and fat that hangs beyond the original incision line are removed. Dr. Foued Hamza strives to deliver the best tummy tuck London has to offer.

The Recovery Process

After a tummy tuck, there may be a degree of swelling, bruising, numbness, or fatigue. These will be temporary and will resolve shortly. You will be prescribed pain medication to address any discomfort.

Make sure to follow the doctor’s instructions on incision care. Expect to wear a firm elastic garment to promote healing. Refrain from strenuous activities like heavy exercise for six weeks or more as directed.

Proper diet and exercise can help maintain the results of the abdominoplasty procedure for years to come.
