Liposuction Surgery Procedure
Liposuction or fat removal surgery is performed either under general anesthetic or under local anesthetic with sedation and is often treated as a day case, meaning you will not have to stay in the hospital overnight. The procedure usually takes between one and two hours to complete depending on the area being treated and how much fat is being removed.
Prior to removing fat, tumescent fluid is injected into the treatment area. This solution, which is composed of saline solution, lidocaine, and epinephrine, helps to numb the treatment area, control blood loss, and facilitate fat removal.
Dr. Foued Hamza will insert the liposuction cannula into the fat layer beneath your skin. Using a forward and backward motion, Dr. Hamza will use the cannula to loosen and break apart the fat tissue in the area. Following the procedure, the incisions will likely be closed with stitches.
Fat transfer (breast augmentation, Brazilian butt lift) can be completed during this procedure to harmonise body contours.
Liposuction Recovery: What to Expect After Surgery
Once your liposuction surgery is complete, Dr. Hamza will bandage the incisions and place a wrap or compression garment around the treatment area. Liposuction is performed as an outpatient surgery, so you will be able to go home the same day as the procedure.
You’ll need to wear the compression garment, as directed, for three to six weeks to reduce swelling, bruising, and pain, as well as to ensure that your skin adapts to your new shape.
You may see some fluid drainage from your incisions in the first few days of your recovery. For most patients, the fluid may start bloody but will turn clear and stop in less than a week. During this time, you’ll likely be asked to do some walking to encourage blood flow, but you should rest when you feel tired.
