Liposuction Surgery Introduction

In London, liposuction, which is also known as lipoplasty, is one of the most frequently performed cosmetic procedures. Localized fat deposits often develop in various regions of the body and despite having followed a healthy diet and exercise routine, many people find that this stubborn fat remains and contributes to the disproportionate appearance of their figures.

Typical problem areas that can be treated with liposuction surgery include:

  • Inner and Outer Thighs
  • Stomach (or Abdomen)
  • Hips
  • Knees
  • Chin

What is Liposuction Surgery?

Liposuction involves removing excess fat tissue while your doctor reshapes contours of your body and creates a slimmer, more proportionate appearance. Liposuction can be performed alone, but can also be combined with other procedures such as the tummy tuck or Brazilian butt lift (fat transfer) for a more significant transformation. Liposuction is not an effective treatment for weight loss, cellulite, or obesity. It’s best suited for sculpting the body.

Dr. Hamza strives to perform the best liposuction in London, as the goal of the surgery is to beautify body contours. During your consultation, Dr. Foued Hamza will assess if this procedure is suitable for you.

Liposuction Surgery Procedure

Liposuction or fat removal surgery is performed either under general anesthetic or under local anesthetic with sedation and is often treated as a day case, meaning you will not have to stay in the hospital overnight. The procedure usually takes between one and two hours to complete depending on the area being treated and how much fat is being removed.

Prior to removing fat, tumescent fluid is injected into the treatment area. This solution, which is composed of saline solution, lidocaine, and epinephrine, helps to numb the treatment area, control blood loss, and facilitate fat removal.

Dr. Foued Hamza will insert the liposuction cannula into the fat layer beneath your skin. Using a forward and backward motion, Dr. Hamza will use the cannula to loosen and break apart the fat tissue in the area. Following the procedure, the incisions will likely be closed with stitches.

Fat transfer (breast augmentation, Brazilian butt lift) can be completed during this procedure to harmonise body contours.

Liposuction Recovery: What to Expect After Surgery

Once your liposuction surgery is complete, Dr. Hamza will bandage the incisions and place a wrap or compression garment around the treatment area. Liposuction is performed as an outpatient surgery, so you will be able to go home the same day as the procedure.

You’ll need to wear the compression garment, as directed, for three to six weeks to reduce swelling, bruising, and pain, as well as to ensure that your skin adapts to your new shape.

You may see some fluid drainage from your incisions in the first few days of your recovery. For most patients, the fluid may start bloody but will turn clear and stop in less than a week. During this time, you’ll likely be asked to do some walking to encourage blood flow, but you should rest when you feel tired.

Talk to Dr. Hamza during your initial consultation about when it might be appropriate to return to work. This timetable may vary depending on your occupation and the amount of fat removed during surgery.

You can return to eating your regular diet after liposuction surgery, but Dr. Hamza will likely recommend an increase in:

  • Water
  • Lean proteins
  • Fruits
  • Vegetables

Besides containing less fat, these foods are low in sodium (often found to increase swelling and bruising). If you’re experiencing an upset stomach, bland and low-fat foods like toast, yogurt, and broiled chicken (unseasoned) should help.

How Much Does Liposuction Surgery Cost in London?

The liposuction cost can vary on a number of factors. As an experienced London liposuction surgeon, Dr. Hamza will meet with you in his office and go over all associated costs and details with you.

I read so many negative reviews regarding to pain after the surgery which made me really anxious and stressed. I did my surgery yesterday back, flanks, tummy and fat transfer to hip dips. I felt pain yes but I could handle it. It was like I did a lot of squats lunges and sit ups, thats it. I could wake up but myself after 4 hours from surgery, walk alone, used the stairs and went to the bathroom by my own. Important to walk slowly don’t rush. I wish that I found good review like this before surgery for sure I would be more calm.

FAQs about Liposuction

Is liposuction surgery safe?

Liposuction is a widely performed surgical procedure across the UK and Europe. When a qualified, experienced plastic surgeon such as Dr. Foued Hamza, performs liposuction in an accredited clinical setting, it has a good safety record. Serious complications are uncommon but can occur. Dr. Hamza will discuss all safety considerations and help determine if you are a safe candidate during your consultation.

How long does liposuction take to heal?

Recovery from liposuction varies between patients and depends on the amount of fat removed and the treatment areas. Most people can resume light activities within a few days and return to work in about one to two weeks, but visible swelling and bruising typically persist for several weeks or longer.

Will liposuction help me lose weight?

While some patients may see a small change on the scale immediately after surgery, liposuction does not significantly reduce overall body weight, cure obesity, or replace a healthy lifestyle. Maintaining weight with diet and exercise after surgery is important to preserve your results.

Can liposuction be used to treat medical problems such as lipedema?

Yes! In addition to its cosmetic applications, liposuction can be used medically to treat conditions like lipedema, where abnormal fat accumulates in the arms or legs and causes pain, swelling, and mobility issues that don’t respond to conservative measures like compression therapy. Studies and clinical experience suggest that liposuction can reduce symptoms, improve quality of life, and decrease dependence on compression for some patients with lipedema. Liposuction for lipedema often uses specialised techniques that protect lymphatic structures and target diseased fat tissue. Dr. Hamza is experienced in managing lipedema in patients worldwide, and he should assess the suitability of this treatment in person or virtual consultation.

Lower overheads, not reduced medical standards, allow patients to benefit from safe, physician-led liposuction performed by the same experienced surgeon, with no compromise in outcomes or patient safety.
