Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty) Introduction

Over the years, face appearance change, particularly around the eye area. The skin on the part of the face can become wrinkled and start to sag, and bags can appear under the eyes and make you seem older than you are or look more tired.

Eyelid surgery removes excess fat, skin or muscle that exists around the eyes. Depending on the patient’s needs, Dr. Foued Hamza may recommend upper or lower eyelid surgery to correct any issues. The result is a brighter overall finish and a more youthful appearance.

Blepharoplasty can be done alone as an individual procedure or in conjunction with other facial surgery operations such as a face or a brow lift.

  • Relieving a ‘tired’ appearance
  • Easier application of make-up
  • Correct premature ageing
  • Improved and more youthful appearance
  • Improved vision in some cases

The Technique

Blepharoplasty surgery is performed either under general anesthetic or under local anesthetic with sedation, and is often treated as a day case, meaning you will not have to stay in hospital overnight. The procedure usually takes between one and two hours to complete.

Upper eyelid surgery

Dr. Foued Hamza will begin by making small incisions along the natural crease of the upper eye. He will then very carefully separate the skin from the underlying tissue before removing or repositioning the fatty tissue and tightening the muscles. Before stitching, the skin will be stretched to ensure that the end result is smooth and free from lines and wrinkles.

Lower eyelid surgery

Dr Foued Hamza will make an incision along the lower lash line before removing any excess fat (often known as eye bags) and stretching the skin to ensure a smooth finish.
